Penang i-Sejahtera programme welfare

George Town Penang News: The Penang government has allocated RM54,262,200 for this year’s i-Sejahtera programme. This strategic initiative aims to improve the welfare system and well-being of the people in the state of Penang. State Social Development, Welfare, and Non-Islamic Affairs Committee Chairman Lim Siew Khim, stated that the programme will increase liveability and improve the quality of life for Penang residents. The funding is noteworthy as Penang has been one of the top expat destinations in Malaysia for years.

Starting from November 20, electronic fund transfers (EFT) will be made to the bank accounts of 3,458 i-Sejahtera recipients under Phase 4/2023 of the programme. This includes 2,669 Senior Citizen Appreciation Programme (PPWE) recipients, 235 single mother (PBIT) recipients, and 544 Suri Emas (PSE) recipients. This will involve an expenditure of RM613,700.

Additionally, the payment for the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) programme under Phase 4/2023 has been implemented since October 28th to 757 recipients, with an allocation of RM151,400. As per Lim’s statement, 79 next of kin have also received death benefits under the PwD Assistance Programme, involving an allocation of RM79,000.

The public can check the payment status from November 27th on the website. Lim encouraged people to contact the nearest Unity Government Service Centre for further details. She also urged applicants to update their bank account information to ensure they receive the i-Sejahtera Programme aid promptly next year.

Applicants of the PPWE, PBIT, or PwD Assistance Programme who have problems with their bank accounts can use their family members’ bank accounts, provided that the bank account holder is registered as the legal beneficiary in the i-Sejahtera system.

According to Lim, RM3.7 million has been invested in implementing this programme since 2010.
