Malaysian Emergency Response Services 999 (MERS 999) is an initiative of the Malaysian government to unite Malaysian emergency numbers into one central number for easy access. The emergency hotline for Malaysia is simply 999. Under the direction and direction of the government, the emergency services will carry out their primary duties as security enforcement bodies (Police), fire prevention and rescue bodies (Fire), medical services (Hospitals), humanitarian services (Civil Defense) and emergency at sea (Maritime Malaysia). 999 emergency calls are answered promptly by professional emergency officers (PEO) within just 10 seconds. Before diverting a call to the appropriate emergency services, the emergency officers will first ask the caller questions such as the type of emergency, location of the incident, and contact number to verify the call is legit.

There is a warning for abusing the emergency number 999 in Malaysia; a person can be charged and fined RM50,000 or sentenced to 1 year in prison or both if convicted of a false emergency number call to Malaysia emergency services.
